What To Expect From Counselling

At Anthony Hansen Counselling, I create a space where you can:

  • Feel heard, seen, and supported

  • Explore your emotions and patterns with curiosity

  • Learn tools to manage anxiety, stress, or overwhelm

  • Process unresolved trauma safely and at your pace

  • Reconnect with your sense of self, meaning, and possibility

Whether you’re working through trauma, depression, anxiety, or just feeling stuck — we’ll work together to move from surviving to living more fully.

My Approach to Counselling

  • Trauma-informed — You’re always in control. We move at a pace that feels right for your nervous system.

  • Holistic — I work with the mind, body, and nervous system. Together we might use EMDR, somatic techniques, mindfulness, or talk therapy.

  • Collaborative — This is your space. You decide what we explore and how we work together.

  • Compassionate — I meet you with warmth, respect, and genuine care.

You don’t have to go through this alone. I’m here to support your healing, gently and consistently.

What To Expect From Counselling

All sessions are held online via Zoom, offering privacy and flexibility from the comfort of your home. I also offer phone sessions if you prefer voice-only communication.

Session Length:

  • Standard: 50 minutes

  • Extended EMDR sessions available (optional)

Session Format:

  • Online video counselling

  • Online EMDR therapy

  • Telephone counselling

Final Note

Starting therapy can feel like a big step — but you don’t have to have it all figured out. Just showing up is enough.

Q: How do I know if counselling is right for me?
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, down, or disconnected — counselling can help. You don’t need to have a diagnosis or a crisis. If something isn’t working and you want support, that’s enough.

 

Q: Do you accept Mental Health Care Plans? 

Yes, I do. You can ask your GP for a referral to Anthony Hansen Counselling and a Mental Health Care Plan. You can find more information at Fees & Rebates, upload your Mental Health Care Plan here or send me a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan via email at: anthonyhansencounselling@gmail.com 

Q: What happens in the first session?
The first session is a gentle introduction. We’ll talk about what’s brought you here, what you’re hoping for, and how I can support you. You’re welcome to ask questions, and there's no pressure to share more than you feel ready for.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

That depends on your goals and the issues you’re facing. Some clients come for short-term support (6–12 sessions), while others choose longer-term therapy. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust as needed.

Q: Is everything I say confidential?

Yes — confidentiality is a cornerstone of our work. Everything you share is private, except in rare legal or safety situations (which I’ll explain clearly in our first session).

 

Q: Do you offer EMDR in counselling sessions?
Yes. If it feels appropriate and you’re interested, EMDR can be integrated into your counselling sessions. We always go at your pace and prepare thoroughly before starting trauma processing.

 

Q: What if I feel nervous or unsure?
That’s completely normal — and very common. Many people feel anxious about starting therapy. We’ll take things slowly, and I’ll check in with you regularly to ensure you feel safe and supported.

Q: What are your fees?

  • Standard 50-minute session: $120 AUD

  • Extended EMDR sessions are available. Please visit Booking A Session for more information.

Please get in touch if cost is a barrier — I may have limited lower-cost spaces available.

 

Q: Do you offer after-hours appointments?
Yes. I offer evening and weekend appointments to fit around your schedule.

Q: Can I end therapy whenever I want?
Absolutely. You’re in control of the process at all times. Whether you need a pause, a change, or a planned ending — we’ll talk about what feels right for you.

Q: What issues or challenges do you not work with?

I do not work with:
• Crisis Response/24-Hour Services; and
• People who actively have suicidal and homicidal intents and plans.​​​
